A car's paint must be kept in excellent condition to maintain its quality and look. Lately, several products have appeared in the marketplace that claim to be the best which will protect the paint on your car or truck.

Ceramic coating has really been at the forefront of all this in the last decade or so. We will talk about ceramic coatings and whether they are worth the effort. During the last several years, ceramic coatings have grown in popularity, providing some of the best paint protection on the market.

The technology is being marketed almost everywhere, from your local detailing store to automotive YouTube channels, and everywhere in between. There are plenty of people that swear by this stuff. The 1st time people see the price tag, they usually are discouraged. I want to first make clear what ceramic coating is. It's often called a nano coating, and silicon dioxide, or silicon carbide, is the main ingredient.

Ceramic coatings is liquid, so it could be applied to a car or truck and adhere to the finish of the car.

When the coating hardens, the Silicon dioxide and other characteristics of the coating combine to produce an additional protective layer that repels water and provides some protection from the sun's UV rays and other such things. The paint protection and auto detailing industry was dominated by waxes for a long, long time. What started out as using fats from animals in the late 1800s and early 1900s to give those old horse carriages a good spit shine, quickly and thankfully evolved into some more cruelty-free solutions using plant-based products. Different waxes were used for detailing cars in the 1900s to ensure they had that nice glamorous shine their owners desired.

If you wanted to keep your paint looking good, repel water and add just that good little bit of layer of protection, adding a good layer of wax was your solution.

360 Products (available at ADSO stores) have a series of products that protect painted surfaces with nano-ceramic technology. Due to this, everything changed in a big way. But like, why?

What made this product so revolutionary? Is there anything that separates a car wax from a ceramic coating, and why is it so expensive? Ceramic coatings are distinguished from wax coatings by their longer lifetime. A good wax will last you like three to six weeks before you have to reapply it. In contrast, ceramic coatings last for anywhere from two to five years depending on the application and the quality.

It's better to use ceramic coating because it protects against UV rays and other things that can damage your paint.

People have shown that they can just rinse off their vehicles after pouring mud on them, and this has been demonstrated time and time again, so I'm not going to tell you how great it is. There are times when people overhype things a little bit. And what I mean by that is that, because ceramic coating has become so popular, some detailers and people who promote ceramic coating like to stretch the truth just a tad. Meaning there are some common misconceptions about the product and ceramic coating.

First and foremost, it does not eliminate water spots. I'm sorry, it's the truth, although it does help. read more Since the ceramic coating has water-repelling properties, the water and water droplets run off much, much easier than a regular paint, which is why you see it in the videos. That reduces the possibility of water spots. In the videos you'll see that the ceramic coating is extremely hydrophobic, so the water sticks to the surface of the coating, not the surface itself, so it runs off much, much more easily, hence reducing the likelihood of water spots. Number two, a ceramic coating will not prevent rock chips and scratches.

The solution may protect against some light scratches here and there, but I wouldn't say it is scratch-proof. If something like that happens, maybe you should invest in some protective film or Clear Bra. The cost is lower than you may expect.

When ceramic coatings first came out, it cost nearly $1500 to have them done. You can now have your car professionally ceramic coated by a professional detailer for around $700.

A lot of times when you're going to get a quote for having your car coated, you might need to have your car paint corrected first which is where a lot of that extra cost comes in. Or, I mean, if you wanna just get a bottle of the stuff and do it yourself, learn the process, maybe mess it up once or twice, more power to you.

In general, when something new like ceramic coating is introduced it costs quite a bit initially, and then eventually the price will come down over time, that's how it is. It is important to note that part of the cost of ceramic coating your car is paying someone to do the application for you. Let's face it, it has to be worth it for you and your car.

I would recommend protecting those paint jobs if your vehicle is really nice. Invest a couple hundred dollars in getting your car ceramic coated.
